You know you're crazy about Alaska when... On the very last day of your vacation you secretly get a tattoo.
I found a little tattoo shop in Anchorage and sent the design ahead of time. The tattoo artist did a wonderful job interpreting my design.
My tattoo is located on my arm, just below my shoulder. The hummingbird is a Rufus Hummingbird and it is the only hummingbird found in Alaska. It represents my travels and migration to Alaska. This little hummingbird migrates from Alaska to South America every winter. I added forget-me-nots, the state flower of Alaska, because I will never forget Alaska and my experiences there. The mountain range represents the strength and power of Alaska and the Big Dipper over the mountains actually came from the Alaskan flag. Of course the Northern Lights are also represented in my tattoo as well.
I didn't tell anyone I was doing it and only a couple of people have even seen it. It's my personal piece of Alaska that I will always have with me.
My tattoo artist is Haylee (artbycomet on Instagram) at Rebirth Tattoo by Vinne in Ancorage.
